Monday marked the start of Mental Health Awareness Week.
Here at MMC we're no experts, but many of us have first hand experience dealing with our mental health. The fact is, the vast majority of us will experience something, at some time, and it will no doubt come completely out of the blue. No trigger, and no warning.
It doesn't matter how old you are, how successful you are, and how wonderful and loving your family are. If it's your time, it's coming no matter what, and it's very likely you won't know until it's too late. The brain is the most complex of things, it's not always rational, it doesn't always do what we want it to do, and it can take control when we don't ask it to. It can change how we think, how we behave, how we feel, and even what we wear and how we eat. Life isn't always a bed of roses, in fact, sometimes it can be cruel, and take us to some very dark places.
At MMC we try and look out for each other. We're not perfect, but we do our best. Yes we socialise like blokes do, yes we take the mic out of each other and have good banter, but one thing is guaranteed, if you need to talk, we will listen. No stupid jokes, no "man up", and no "I'm too busy". We actually care about each other, and that's important to know.
Below is a link to some advice and facts about men's mental health. I know we don't always like reading things or being told what to do, but sometimes a brief bit of knowledge is all it takes to help ourselves and those around us.
If you've previously considered joining MMC but not got around to it, then why not do something about that now. It's always good to have friends who'll watch your back.
All the best
Ross
